Tuckahoe Orders Outside Disciplinary Review After DA Closes Probe Into Crash Involving Former Chief's Wife

TUCKAHOE, NY — The Tuckahoe police chief said the department will order an independent outside review of the actions of officers who responded to a crash involving the former-chief's wife.

The Tuckahoe Police Department said it has received the report from the Public Integrity Bureau of the Westchester County District Attorney's Office on its investigation into the crash on Aug. 14.

In a statement issued by Police Chief Lawrence Rotta, the department said the village had referred the matter to the Public Integrity Bureau at the outset. Rotta said the referral was made "to ensure an independent review and maintain transparency throughout the process."

Now that the DA's Office review is complete, the village has decided to have an outside independent investigator conduct a disciplinary review. That review will examine the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether any departmental policies, procedures or rules may have been violated and whether disciplinary action may be warranted, according to the chief.

Rotta said the disciplinary review is a required step before any determinations are made or further action is taken.

"This disciplinary review is a process that must be followed before any determinations are made or further action is taken," the statement says. "We ask the public to respect the process and allow the independent investigator to complete a thorough and fair review," Rotta said in the statement.

Rotta also said the village and police department remain committed to "accountability, transparency, and maintaining the highest professional standards." No timeline was provided for when the outside review will begin or conclude, and the statement does not identify the investigator.
