Westchester Man Fled On South County Trail After Stabbing His Father To Death: Police

YONKERS, NY — A Westchester son killed his father in a tragic case of domestic violence, according to police.

The Yonkers Police Department says the Yonkers man has been arrested after a fatal stabbing at a Yonkers home, after an extensive search of nearby trails and wooded areas by police officers and neighboring law enforcement agencies.

On Monday, at around 7:45 a.m., Yonkers police responded to a home on Smart Ave., after receiving a report of a stabbing.

At the scene, officers found a man with stab wounds. Police and medical personnel administered aid, including CPR, and the victim was taken to Westchester Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Yonkers police have identified the victim as 61-year-old Hekmat Ahmad, of Yonkers.

Detectives from the Major Case Squad said the victim had been inside his home when he was attacked by his son, 31-year-old Rami Ahmad, of Yonkers, who fled the scene before police arrived.

After a description of Rami Ahmad was broadcast to responding personnel, an extensive search was launched by the Yonkers Police Patrol Division, Emergency Service Unit, Detective Division, and nearby law enforcement agencies.

After tracing his movements through security camera footage, police determined that Rami Ahmad had been traveling north along the South County Trail.

At 11:13 a.m., on Monday, detectives found Rami Ahmad in the area of Kingston Ave. and Palmer Road. He was taken into custody with the help of patrol officers.

Police say he was found with a folding knife on him.

Rami Ahmad was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his father.

"This was a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family as they deal with an unimaginable loss," Yonkers Police Department Commissioner Christopher Sapienza said. "From the moment our Officers arrived, members of this Department worked quickly and collaboratively to identify, locate, and safely apprehend the suspect. I commend our Patrol Officers, Detectives, Emergency Service Unit, and all of the law enforcement partners who assisted in this search, bringing the incident to a swift conclusion."
