TARRYTOWN, NY — A brutal act of violence has now led to a felony indictment against a Yonkers man.

Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced today that the Yonkers man was indicted for slashing his ex-girlfriend's face and body with a box cutter during a July 2026 attack in Tarrytown.

The defendant, Julio Murillo, 40, was arraigned Thursday in Westchester County Court on two counts of felony assault in the first degree, two counts of felony assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon.

Murillo pleaded not guilty and is currently being held on bail, which was set at $20,000 cash, $50,000 bond, and $100,000 partially secured bond. He is due back in court on Dec. 17.

"The extreme violence this defendant allegedly inflicted on a former intimate partner, someone he claimed to care about, is reprehensible," Cacace said. "No one should ever have to live in fear for their physical safety in a relationship or after it ends."

The district attorney said that the indictment will send a message.

"Today's arraignment comes at the start of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, observed each October to raise awareness about the devastating impact of domestic violence and unite advocates nationwide in our shared determination to end this scourge," Cacace said. "We remain committed to ensuring that survivors know they are not alone, holding offenders accountable, and working with our law enforcement and community partners to break the volatile cycle of domestic violence."

On July 2, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Murillo went to a location in Tarrytown where the victim was residing and, after an attempt to reconcile their relationship was unsuccessful, used a box cutter to slash the victim's face, thigh, and hand, according to the allegations.

The victim subsequently called 911.

The Greenburgh Police Department responded to the scene, where they found Murillo hiding in the bathroom and placed him under arrest. Officers also say they recovered a box cutter on Murillo's person.

The victim suffered a laceration to her face that resulted in permanent scarring; a deep laceration to her thigh that penetrated and exposed muscle tissue; and lacerations to her hand that resulted in nerve damage and limited strength and mobility.

The Greenburgh Police Department handled the investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Special Prosecutions Co-Division Chief Wendy Parra.
