DOBBS FERRY, NY — A Westchester woman is accused of scamming nearly $100K from two health insurance companies.
Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace said the Dobbs Ferry woman was arrested and charged with defrauding the two insurance companies of nearly $100,000 between May 2022 and February 2025.
"This defendant allegedly submitted false insurance claims to UnitedHealthcare Company and Cigna Health and Life Insurance Company over a three-year period, ultimately netting nearly $100,000 in reimbursements and unlawfully profiting off these insurance companies and their customers," Cacace said. "I thank UnitedHealthcare's Special Investigative Unit for referring this alleged scheme to my Economic Crimes Bureau, which uncovered its full scope, and the New York State Department of Financial Services for its assistance throughout the investigation."
Jackie Crino, 46, was arrested Thursday by the Westchester County District Attorney's Office and arraigned in Dobbs Ferry Justice Court. She is charged with grand larceny, felony insurance fraud, felony health care fraud, felony forgery, six counts of felony criminal possession of a forged instrument, and felony scheme to defraud.
According to the charges, between May 17, 2022, and Feb. 14, 2025, Crino submitted written insurance forms to UnitedHealthcare Company and Cigna Health and Life Insurance Company containing false invoices for medical services that were not performed and received reimbursements totaling $99,007.15.
Crino is accused of defrauding UnitedHealthcare Company of $16,737.13 between May 17, 2022, and July 10, 2023, and Cigna Health and Life Insurance Company of $86,270.02 between April 15, 2024, and Feb. 14, 2025.
The case was investigated by the Westchester County District Attorney's Office Economic Crimes Bureau and Forensic Accountant Michael Frenza following referrals from the New York State Department of Financial Services and UnitedHealthcare's Special Investigative Unit. The New York State Department of Financial Services assisted in the joint investigation.
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant DA Emily Rowe-Smith, with the assistance of Forensic Accountant Michael Frenza, both of the Economic Crimes Bureau.
Crino pleaded not guilty and was released on her own recognizance. She is due back in court on Oct. 22.
