YONKERS, NY — A candidates forum in Yonkers took a chaotic turn Wednesday night, according to media reports.
Democratic Westchester County legislative candidate Kisha Skipper became involved in a restroom altercation with Donna Nolan, the mother of Republican County Legislator James Nolan, according to the campaign event report and local outlet Black Westchester, as cited by the New York Post. The Post reported Skipper was handcuffed and detained after the incident at the Beczak Environmental Center. Yonkers police did not immediately respond to the Post's request for information Thursday.
In an early-morning Facebook post cited by the Post, Skipper said: "Let me just say, I know there's a lot of video, a lot of misinformation being spread. No, I was not arrested. Yes, I was detained pending an investigation. Of course, I was released, and there will be more information forthcoming."
The Post, citing Black Westchester, reported the confrontation began during a break in the forum after Skipper was asked about alleged questionable campaign donations and went to the bathroom without answering. The Post said cellphone video showed several women confronting one another near the restroom entrance before attendees separated them.
James Nolan wrote on Instagram, according to the Post, "There is absolutely no justification for violence," and added, "This is a clear example of why she is not fit to serve public office." The Post also reported Donna Nolan was taken to a hospital by ambulance, though details about any injuries were not immediately available.
