YONKERS, NY — A new mural celebrating Cross County Center's 70-year history was recently unveiled in Yonkers, bringing together state and arts leaders at one of the city's longstanding shopping destinations.
New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins joined representatives from ArtsWestchester and Cross County Center for the unveiling. The mural marks Cross County Center's history as both a shopping destination and a community gathering place in Westchester.
The work was created by artist Andrey Kravtsov, who is also known as Key Detail. The mural features colorful, 1950s-inspired imagery meant to highlight generations of memories and connections made at the center over the decades.
The project is part of CHARM, which stands for Cultivating Havens for the Arts through Regional Murals. According to the announcement, CHARM is a statewide initiative launched by Gov. Kathy Hochul and administered by the New York State Council on the Arts.
The mural adds a public art element to a center that has served Yonkers residents for generations. The mural was conceived as a tribute to the role the property has played in local life since it opened 70 years ago.
You can see the mural for yourself in the North Lot between Zara and Shake Shack at Cross County Center.
