Former Dobbs Ferry Trustee has warned Westchester for years that there could be election machine problems. No one listened--until today.
I would like to nominate former Dobbs Ferry Village Trustee Allegra Dengler to serve on County Executive Ken Jenkins bipartisan committee that will investigate the embarrassing election day voting machine problems. that occurred today I have written to County Executive Ken Jenkins, Legislator David Imamura and Jewel Williams Johnson with my recommendation.
Since the Bush V Gore election, Allegra has devoted many thousands of hours working to protect the vote count. She has worked to increase awareness of the vulnerability of voting machines to the kind of failure that we just experienced in Westchester County.
Her major focus in recent years has been working to improve New York State election law to ensure that New York gets hand count audits adequate to verify the vote count in an age of cyberthreats to our election structure.
Allegra is an election integrity advocate and board member of Citizens for Voting Integrity in New York. She has been warning of ballot scanner failures for years. In 2000 she raised concerns about the Dominion voting equipment and the reliability of vote counting. She addressed the NY State Board of Elections on the subject in 2021. In July 2020 she cautioned that there could be machine breakdowns, and voter confusion. Allegra warned everyone that there could be problems on election day with the machines for years - no one listened. Her prediction that things could go wrong happened today --to most people's surprise, but not hers.
I can't think of anyone more qualified and more committed than Allegra to serve on the committee that is going to be formed. The election machine malfunction is a tremendous embarrassment to Westchester County. Some residents have reached out to me today indicating that they decided not to vote because of the machine problems.
