Ardsley High Science Olympiad Team Wins Regional Competition

The Ardsley High School Science Olympiad team, one of 39 teams from 24 Westchester and Rockland schools, recently won first place overall in the Lower Hudson Valley Regional Competition, hosted at Byram Hills High School.

The schools competed in 23 science and engineering events ranging from “Cell Biology” and “Entomology” to “Astronomy” and “Compound Machines,” according to the school, and Ardsley won 10 gold, five silver and 10 bronze medals to place first overall.

In mid-March, 15 Ardsley students will represent the school at the New York State competition in Syracuse.

Ardsley was represented by two teams at the competition. The Ardsley A team earned gold medals in “Bridge Building”, “Bungee Drop”, “Fossils”, “Geologic Mapping” and the “Mission Possible” (Rube Goldberg) event, silver medals in “Chemistry Lab” and “Protein Modeling”, and bronze medals in “Air Trajectory” (pneumatic launcher), “Game On” (computer game design) and the “Scrambler Car” event. Ardsley’s B team earned bronze medals in “Fossils” and “Protein Modeling”. The individual event medal winners were: Andrew Rosenfeld (2 gold, 1 silver), Kruti Sutaria (1 gold, 1 silver), Jainil Sutaria (1 gold, 1 bronze), Gaurav Uppal (1 silver, 1 bronze), Andrew Ziemer (1 gold), Alistair Gluck (1gold, 1 silver), YuHan Bae (1 gold), Tara Venkatadri (1 gold), Ben Sherman (1 gold), Ronin Sharma (1 gold), Liana Patel (1 silver), Shaan Dave (2 bronze), Zachary Gold (1 bronze), Robin Xiao (1 bronze), Mriganka Nerkar (1 bronze), Rebecca Chu-Carroll (1 bronze), Maggie Zhong (1 bronze), and Brian Evans (1 bronze).
