Ardsley School District OKs Veterans Tax Exemption

The exemption puts Ardsley veterans on equal footing with their counterparts in the Rivertowns.

ARDSLEY, NY — The Ardsley school district Board of Education approved the alternative veterans tax exemption at its meeting Tuesday.

The vote, which was unanimous, took six years of lobbying efforts, according to a spokesman.

The exemption will provide relief to veterans who qualify on their school taxes without imposing a financial burden on other taxpayers.

This puts Ardsley veterans on equal footing with their school district counterparts in Dobbs Ferry and Irvington and in the village of Hastings-on-Hudson where exemptions have been passed.

According to the resolution, the exemption will apply to eligible veterans whose homes are used as primary residences.

The basic exemption will be 15 percent of the assessed value of the property and an additional exemption of 10 percent for veterans who served in a combat zone. There is also an exemption for disabled veterans.
