Continuum Assisted Living on Wednesday's Planning Board Agenda

The plan for the proposed Continuum Assisted Living Facility will be back on the agenda for the Irvington Planning Board this Wednesday evening, December 5. The meeting will be held at Village Hall (85 Main Street) beginning at 7:00pm, though the Continuum discussion will not begin until at least 8:30pm.

With the November meeting being hastily rescheduled following Hurricane Sandy, for many Village residents, this will be the first opportunity to voice their opinions on the revised plan.

During the November meeting, and a previous work session,  there was much discussion about whether to demolish the existing building or try to save it. While many in the community and the Planning Board expressed their desire to save the building, urging adaptive reuse while noting the historical significance of the Dunham property, others on the Board felt that the existing building was simply not a viable option for this proposed use. 

Also, during the November 14 meeting, members of the community expressed their concerns about impact to the Aqueduct and to the overall feel of the community. 

Others spoke of the impact to the soil and rainwater runoff. The new plan calls for the removal of 129 of 188 trees on the site and does not meet current Village laws regarding setbacks, parking and buffers.

The Planning Board will soon have to make its recommendation to the Board of Trustees as to whether to support changing our zoning laws to allow for this project to be built. I encourage you to attend this meeting and make sure your voice is heard on this important issue.
