Voting is comparing. Faced with 5 candidates and 2 open seats, it becomes natural for the voter to categorize and characterize the 2 incumbents, 2 newcomers and 1 highly-experienced 6-year ex-Board President.

Breaking it down further, it becomes clear that there are natural pairings in this race as well. Kerner and Camp claim the "intelligent questions" and "fiscal prudence" roles. Kashkin and Lenz vie for "most well-known" and "community service" roles. Dawson, quite conflicted by virtue of his IUFSD-teacher family members and a Yonkers teacher himself, seems to be running only against some other John Dawson.

Diligentsia suggests a 20-word matrix for comparison:

  • Kerner versus Camp

  • Kashkin versus Lenz
    focus, reputation, knowledge, experience
  • Dawson versus Dawson
    examine conflict, leadership, accomplishments
