Irvington Housing Committee Meeting this Thursday

There will be an informational meeting this Thursday, January 17 at 7pm, as a step towards the formation of an Irvington Housing Committee. This is a follow-on to a meeting held in October.

For this meeting, Sue Smith, Chair of the Hastings Affordable Housing Committee will be on hand to share how that highly successful and active committee functions.

Background:

You may be aware that under the 2009 settlement with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Westchester County has committed to deliver at least 750 units of affordable housing for working families. 

One of the goals of the Mayor and Trustees is to actively promote the creation of affordable housing within the Village of Irvington and the region, especially through community‐based grassroots efforts.

Fair and Affordable Housing is an often misunderstood and mischaracterized phrase. At its core, the goal is to ensure that a community is inclusive and that we continue to ensure that those who work in the Village can afford to live here.

The Irvington Housing Committee will lead those community-based efforts. Depending upon the committee's interests, it may expand the mandate beyond affordable housing to help develop strategies for housing for empty nesters and to meet the ongoing needs of the Village and its residents.

The meeting will be held in the newly redone Tiffany Room at Village Hall (first room on the left as you enter the Main Street entrance).
