Lowey Calls for Minute of Silence to Honor Munich 11

Members of Congress, Jewish Groups, Widow of Slain 1972 Israeli Olympic Coach, Olympic Medalist Stand together to Call for Minute of Silence during the London 2012 Opening Ceremonies

Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-Westchester/Rockland) will join with the Jewish Federations of North America on a media call to urge the International Olympic Committee to hold a minute of silence during the Opening Ceremonies at the London Olympics in honor of the Munich 11.  Congresswoman Lowey joined with Congressman Eliot Engel and wrote directly to the IOC and introduced a Resolution in the House of Representatives, which passed in the House Foreign Affairs Committee, calling on the IOC to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of this tragedy. And family members of victims of the massacre and community organizations like the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Rockland, launched an online petition urging the IOC to include a minute of silence. The IOC has repeatedly denied requests for the minute of silence and unless the IOC has a last minute change of heart, the Opening Ceremonies will pass without any tribute to the victims or their families on this important anniversary.
