Mercy Professor Named a Leading Graphic Designers by Architects Institute

Jen Roos received a B.A. from Princeton University and an M.F.A from Yale. She has worked as Design Director at Cooper-Hewitt and taught at Parsons, Rutgers, Yale, and Mercy College.

Mercy College faculty member Jen Roos is the founder and Creative Director of 8pointstudio, which has been recognized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) as one this year’s top 10 graphic design firms in New York City.

Every year, as part of its ongoing mission to promote design excellence, the home of AIA’s New York chapter, The Center for Architecture, holds its annual
Graphic Designer Shortlist.  With the honor, Roos’ firm joins the company of internationally renowned design studios Bruce Mau Design and Dresser Johnson.  In the coming year, 8pointstudio’s work will be featured at the Center, which serves as a highly-trafficked space for the architecture community and public, providing important print and exhibition resources through its library.  For the full list of this year’s honorees, click here.

Roos, an assistant professor in the School of Liberal Arts Computer Arts + Design (CART) Program, involves CART students in 8pointstudio work, through which students gain with real-world experience outside the classroom before they graduate.

In the past year, Sarah Liriano ‘14, Megan Donaldson ‘15, Sean Gabay ‘15
and former Mercy student, Anita Mosquera ‘11, who began her involvement with 8pointstudio as a student-intern and now works in the studio full-time, have been part successful campaigns for Meurice, New York’s premier garment care specialist; Vitatex, a leading scientific research company that develops patented cancer detection methods; In2Green, a purveyor of earth-friendly, up-cycled home accents; and CitySquash, a non-profit sports and education outreach program in the Bronx.

Their work included developing custom graphic icons, website launches and

"This honor from the American Institute of Architects puts 8pointstudio in a small group of well-recognized designers that the American Institute of Architects has chosen to work with,” said Roos.  “This recognition affirms the high quality of our studio work and provides recognition from our peers that our work is noteworthy and sought after.”

Jen Roos received a B.A. in Architecture from Princeton University in 1992 and an M.F.A. in Graphic Design from Yale in 1996 and worked as Design Director at Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institution in Manhattan for seven years. She began teaching graphic design in 2004 and has subsequently enjoyed teaching at Parsons, Rutgers, and Yale and is now a full-time Assistant Professor at Mercy College. Her work has received Federal Design Achievement awards and has been recognized by the ACD 100, AIGA’s Communication
Graphics, the Type Directors Club, and ID Magazine’s Review.
