The purpose of this correspondence is to alert the community of a recent surge of individuals under the influence of Phencyclidine (PCP), commonly known as angel dust.  PCP is a synthetic drug sold as tablets, capsules, or white or colored powder. It can be snorted, smoked or eaten.

PCP laced marihuana is specifically marihuana dipped in PCP laced embalming fluid which is called “Wet” and is probably the most common form that we see.  Cigarettes or tea leaves can also be soaked in this liquid and then smoked.

When the marijuana or cigarette is smoked, the onset of effects is rapid which may produce hallucinations, panic, and fear and can induce a psychotic state with symptoms that resemble schizophrenia.

Some users report feelings of invulnerability and exaggerated strength.  PCP users may become severely disoriented, violent or suicidal.

Although some customers are purchasing marijuana knowing it is laced with PCP we believe others are unknowingly purchasing marijuana without realizing PCP has been added.

This year we have had numerous officers injured in confronting individuals under the influence of this drug.  Fortunately none were seriously hurt, but before a user, police officer or member of the public is seriously injured I wish to issue this informational bulletin.

If you are aware of any drug dealing in your neighborhood you can report it on our non-emergency number (914) 682-5300.  Although identity of a caller adds credibility to a complaint, you may elect to remain anonymous as we do not have caller ID on this number.
