The Magic of Memory at the Hudson River Museum, July 11 with Magician Benjamin Levy
The Magic of Memory at the Hudson River Museum, July 11 - Learn strategies to make your mind stronger than ever before from magician, entertainer, and memory expert Benjamin Levy.

Are you starting to forget some things that you used to easily remember? Join the club. Nevertheless, there are several steps you can take to make your mind stronger than ever before. The older person’s experience and wealth of knowledge can leave young whippersnappers in the dust – if, that is, it’s applied intelligently, making the most of all the recent advances in brain research.
Benjamin Levy is a magician, entertainer and memory expert. His book on remembering people’s names, entitled Remember Every Name Every Time was chosen by the editors of Fortune magazine for inclusion on their prestigious list “The Smartest Books We Know: 75 books that tell you everything you really need to know about business.” His advice on all things memory-related has been quoted in national newspapers and magazines like The Washington Post. He’s even taught his techniques on The Martha Stewart Show. He will show you how to make the most of your mind, to build your brain so that you will retain more than you ever thought you could.
One key technique is to create mental pictures, an imaginative exercise that draws out the primal power of the right side of the brain – the side that tends to be ignored by many of us. Suddenly skills of the imagination trump rote, boring, often-ineffective attempts at memory. Mr. Levy will show us how to create these mental images, how to create an exciting, enjoyable magic show in your own head to help you remember more than you ever thought possible.

Mr. Levy practices what he preaches: his presentation is peppered with actual magic tricks to illustrate his points (the current HRM exhibition Gilded Age Magic features photos, posters, books and ephemera from his conjuring collection, a collection that has informed his work, from presentations at the Wharton School of Business to the White House, for President Obama.). He demonstrates how magic - whether live, or just in your head – makes even the most arcane information surprisingly, magically memorable.
The Magic of Memory is part of our Arts in the Afternoon Series, on Wednesday, July 11 at 1:30pm.
