Writer of New Anne Frank Book to Speak at Spoken Interludes' Program in Hastings
Nathan Englander is one of three authors who will read from their work at the 2013 season opener for the Spoken Interludes' book reading series.
Spoken Interludes will celebrate its 17th anniversary when it opens its 2013 season of book-reading programs on March 20 at RiverView in Hastings-on-Hudson. Three authors including Nathan Englander will describe their latest work at this event.
In addition to the March 20 program, book-reading evenings are also scheduled for Wednesday, April 17 and Tuesday, May 7.
The writers to be introduced on March 20 by novelist and actress DeLauné Michel, founder of Spoken Interludes, are:

- Nathan Englander who will read from his new collection "What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank." www.nathanenglander.com
- Biographer Blake Bailey who will read key passages from his new book, "Farther and Wilder: The Lost Weekends and Literary Dreams of Charles Jackson." www.blakebaileyonline.com

Englander is the author of a short story collection called "The Relief of Unbearable Urges," published in 1999. Bailey has written biographies for Phillip Roth, Richard Yates and John Cheever. Taitz is the author of "In the King's Arms" and "Mothering Heights."

The evening’s activities will be preceded by a buffet dinner catered by Chutney Masala chef Navjot Arora. The cost per person is $25 payable by check or cash at the door. Checks should be made out to Chutney Masala. The RiverView bar only accepts cash.
The menu for the Indian buffet dinner includes:

- Chicken Reshami Kebab
- Saffron Pulao
- Saag Paneer
- Punjabi Kadhi Pakoda (savory yogurt curry with dumplings)
- Vegetable Jhalfarezi
- Chicken Tikka Masala
- Fish Kohliwada
- Nan Bread
Buffet service begins at 6 p.m. and concludes at 7:30 p.m. when Michel will begin introducing the guest speakers.
Book signings take place from 8:30 to 9 p.m. The books can be purchased from on-site representatives of The Village Book Store of Pleasantville, NY, by cash, check or credit card.
Spoken Interludes was created in 1996 by novelist and actress Michel. It conducts a number of meet-the-author gatherings annually where writers read passages, answers questions and autograph their latest books.
Michel is a resident of Irvington and the author of "Aftermath of Dreaming" and "The Safety of Secrets," published by HarperCollins.
