Carjacker Sentenced to 20 Years in State Prison

Fatmir Dajbabic is sentenced to 20 years in state prison for hijacking a 73-year-old man's vehicle in Dobbs Ferry.

Fatmir Dajbabic, of Staten Island, was sentenced to 20 years in State Prison after pleading guilty to a carjacking in Dobbs Ferry, a class "B" violent felony, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's office.

On January 1, 2010 Dajbabic, 29, approached a pregnant woman at the Getty gas station in downtown Dobbs Ferry under the pretense to asking for directions.

The defendant is then reported to have displayed a black handgun concealed in his waistband, prompting the woman to refuse his request loudly in an attempt to draw attention to them.

She then slipped inside the mini-mart and immediately called police.

Next Dajbabic approached another car driven by a 73-year-old male, entered the vehicle, and directed the driver where to go.

When they were on Transvall Avenue, Dajbabic revealed the weapon, holding it to the elderly victim's right temple and ordered him to get in the back seat; but the victim instead fled the vehicle and called for help.

Dajbabic followed the victim, grabbing him and covering his mouth to muffle the sounds. The defendant hit the victim in the back of the head, returned to the stolen vehicle and drove off.

The victim called police from a nearby residence.

The same say, Dajbabic was apprehended by the New York City Police Department in Brooklyn, but questioned about unrelated robberies. He did admit, however, to having committed the carjacking in Dobbs Ferry. In addition to his guilty plea in Westchester, Dajbabic pled guilty to robberies in Kings and Richmond Counties.
