Spotlight on: Ali Marpet and Tom Spenser


A first time starter for the Hobart College Diplomats, Ali Marpet of Hastings was chosen as the college's athlete of the week for his stellar play as an offensive lineman, when he made 12 key blocks in the team's 31-0  triumph over guests Dickinson on Sept. 1.

In his debut as goal keeper for the Division I Rhode Island Rams, Tom Spencer of Hastings was brilliant in the nets, as his team played at Northern Ilinois on the 8th, with a scoreless tie ensuing, in 2 overtimes. He repelled all 6 shots on his kingdom, and received accolades from all who saw the game. On the 9th, they faced the Northwestern Wildcats, and he was goal tender for the first half, when he had 6 shots against, allowed 3 goals, and made 3 saves in the 3-2 setback.

Other Results:
The Wortner brothers, senior Patrick and freshman Brendan, of the Geneseo Blue Knights, both had their first taste of big-time cross country running , as they competed in the Penn State Invitational at State College on the 8th. The Princeton Tigers were first , with 25 points, followed by Georgetown, Penn State , Navy, St. Josephs of Pa., and then the Geneseo delegation , with 157 points. Blue Knight Brendan was 54th out of 98 runners , clocked at 27.35, while Patrick was listed as 55th, although with the same 
 In a 3-0 over LeMoyne on the 8th , Carolina Abreu had time on the playing field for Mercy College
Travis Blair of Hastings and Wheaton College , in a 2-1 loss to Keene State , scored his team's only goal at 22:54, and had 6 shots, with 3 on goal in the game.
Becca Bortz of Dobbs Ferry and Chapman College scored her team's 2nd goal in 3-1 win over UCal- Santa Cruz on the 8th at 32-30 , after the foe had opened the scoring . A teammate knocked in the winner in the 2nd half. 
Hosting Buffalo State on the 9th , in a 3-1 field hockey win over Wheaton on the 8th ,Lisa Bucci of Irvington had 3 shots on goal and scored Salve Regina's 2nd goal in the game
Abby Flock of Irvington and Hackley , placed 16th out of 82 harriers on the August 31st , with a time of 20:13.60 , as her Johns Hopkins won the cross country race that day.
Sean Degnan and the Springfield football eleven , scored an overwhelming victory at Maine's Husson College , 36-2 , with he starting again on the offensive line.
At the ELGA cross country meet on the 8th, Emily Polstein of Hastings and Oberlin finished 45th of 82 runners , and clocked at 21:50, with her team finishing 1st of 5 schools competing , with 19 points. 
In the home opener before 2,760 fans , the Occidental Tigers lost to guests Pacific University , with wide receiver Josh Gorlick of Hastings having 5 pass receptions for 54 yards, with the longest 19 yards. His team lost , 26-7.

Joanne Mumbey of Dobbs Ferry and Johnson & Wales, in a home opening cross country meet on the 8th , finished 34th  with a time of 22.39, as her team finished in 7h place with 139 points .
In a 35-10 win at Westfield State on the 8th , Kevin Degnan of Western New England college , saw some action in the game.Skylar Griffenberg of Ardsley and Ithaca College , had his firstaction for the Bombers , as he had 3 tackles in the 24-0 win at Moravia on the 8th.
Nicolette Hardesty of Dobbs Ferry , a senior forward for the Vermont Catamounts, has played in four of the team's 5 games thus far, coming off the bench in three of the squad's first four contests, and starting  in the most recent with Qunippiac , a 4-1 loss on 8/31The three other losses were to Army , Fairfield ,and Connecticut , while the one victory was over Central Ct. State.
In an 8-0 loss  to the Mary Washington Eagles on the 8th, Roanoke College's Michelle Huddleston of Dobbs Ferry and Hackley played off the bench in the setback.
In a 2-1 loss to cross town rival Worcester State on the 8th , Hannah Wilson of Irvington and of Clark University's women's soccer team , had 2 shots on the day.
 After gaining a 2-0 lead over guests St. Lawrence on the 7th, the Rochester Yellow Jackets soccer team gave up three unanswered goals , with the winning goal scored in the final minute of play , to lose , 3-2. Nick Pastore of Hastings had 1 shot on goal in the game . With Clarkson on the 8th, he played off the bench and had 1 shot in the 1-0 victory.
Sophia Sylla of Ardsley , scored her first goal of the season for the  Binghamton Bearcats on 9/2 , scoring unassisted on a breakaway at the 84:32 mark , in the 4-0 blanking of guests Lehigh , with the team now 3-1, having topped Bucknell and Niagara earlier, and losing a close one to St. Joseph's of Pennsylvania ,1-0. Then , facing Siena on the 7th, they topped the Saints, 2-1 in overtime . Sylla played 54 minutes in the win.
In her collegiate debut for Mt .Holyoke on the 8th , Emma Sweeting led the way in volley ball , as she had 5 kills and 8 digs in a 3-0 loss to the Lord Jeffs of Amherst .
