College Roundup: Dec. 10-16

Athletes from the Rivertowns had an excellent week in college sports.

Addendum: At the Cornell Relays on the 1st, Patrick Wortner of Geneseo finished 7th in the men's 5000 race, clocked at 15:49.81, while his brother Brendon was 8th, at 15:54.33.

 Mark Siden of Hastings and Gettysburg, had an assist in the Bullelts' 66-52 win over the Shenandoah Hornets on the 15th. The record is now 3-6.

 The Yale men's fencing team, in a meet at Brandeis on the 2nd, won four of its 5 matches, losing only to St. Johns, 15-12.  Peter Cohen of Irvington and Hackley competed in epee. The Bulldogs topped Boston College , 20-7, won over Johns Hopkins, 15-12, defeated M.I.T. 17-10, and also took North Carolina, 16-11.

 At the Princeton 12 team invitational track meet on the 9th, Claire Murphy of Hastings/Ursuline and Lafayette, tied for 5th place in the women's pole vault competition with her best vault of 10-11.75. There were 14 vaulters in this event.

 Sarah Howe of Hastings and Haverford, running in  the 1 mile race at her college's meet on the 15th, finished 7th out of 21 starters in the event, with a time of 5:44.40.

 In a 66-53 win on the 11th over visiting Green Mountain College, Kevin Dahill of Skidmore had 13 points, the result of 3 layups, a trey, and 3-7 at the foul line, plus 1 steal in the game.

 Tara Gabelman of Connecticut College showed the way for her Camels, in a 68-62 squeaker loss to  visiting Roger Williams on the 11th, as her game high of 20 points was garnered on 7-14 from the field and 6-7 at the foul line. Her 15 boards was also game high, and she also had 1 block against the Hawks. The record is now 5 - 5.
