Congressional Delegation Tours Facility With Immigrant Children

Rep. Nita Lowey said she had been concerned that 327 children were flown 2,000 miles from their families to shelters in New York.

DOBBS FERRY, NY — A congressional delegation was in Dobbs Ferry Friday for a tour of Children’s Village, one of four facilities in Westchester County that has been holding immigrant children who were separated from their families at the border by the Trump administration.

Following the tour, Rep. Nita Lowey, D-Harrison, said that she had been concerned the 327 children had been flown about 2,000 miles from their families to shelters in New York.

“Shelters like Children’s Village provide vital services for vulnerable children, but the Trump administration’s decision to put 2,000 miles between children and their families will make it much harder for families to be reunited quickly,” she said.

“Worse, the administration has presented no realistic plan to reunite families and has shown no urgency in addressing this crisis,” Lowey said.

Lowey was joined for the tour by Reps. Eliot Engel, D-Bronx, Gregory W. Meeks, D-NY5, Grace Meng, D-NY6, and Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-DE.
