Dobbs Ferry High School Presents 'Little Shop of Horrors' April 24-25
General admission tickets are $10; $7 for students.

Dobbs Ferry High School students will present ”Little Shop of Horrors” this weekend, April 24 and 25 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. General admission tickets are $10; $7 for students.
The award-winning musical comedy, by Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, is about a meek florist shop assistant who raises a man-eating Venus fly-trap like plant that has a thirst for human blood. Based on a macabre cult horror film from the early 60’s, the show features such memorable tunes as “Skid Row (Downtown)“, “Somewhere That’s Green”, and “Suddenly, Seymour.”
“I chose this show because it is a fun, upbeat musical with many hits that the audience will recognize and sing along with,” said Georgia DeFalco, the show’s director and vocal, music and theatre director at the High School and Middle School, in a statement. “Composer Alan Menken has won Academy Awards for his various Disney films including The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. Sixties pop, rock, Motown and rhythm and blues music permeate Little Shop of Horror’s gleefully gruesome score.”

Spoiler Alert… “Traditionally, the show is performed with various puppets portraying the man-eating plant Audrey II,” said Ms. DeFalco. “However, I decided to do a different interpretation. Little Shop utilizes a comedic device in showing how obviously Audrey II does NOT look like a normal plant to everyone except the characters in the show. So I decided that the actor playing Audrey II would remain onstage performing instead of being hidden behind the puppet. I also cast a female as Audrey II which gives a twist to the classic interpretation (usually Audrey II is a deep voiced male). She will “grow” as Audrey II grows- more and more of her costume will be revealed until the audience and characters realize Audrey II’s full, deadly potential. It’s a killer ending!”
“Leaves the audience ... feeling just like Audrey II between victims - ravenous for more.” The New York Times
