Dobbs Ferry Police Beat August 24 – 31: Petty Larceny Arrest & Attempt to Steal Tires Thwarted by Resident

August 24
Arrest Made in Petty Larceny Case
10:39 p.m. A 16-year-old Children's Village resident, 1 Echo Hill, had stolen a Motorola Droid phone, valued at $500, from a 16-year-old Dobbs Ferry male in Gould Park. The suspect asked the resident if he could borrow his phone. When the victim handed it over, the suspect ran. Officer Mazzei was flagged down by the victim while doing a park check, and the suspect was arrested and the phone returned to its owner shortly after. The suspect was released on his own recognizance and returned to the custody of Children's Village. He returned to court on August 26.

August 26
Shattered Windshield

7:04 p.m. A 19-year-old resident of Ridge Road reported that the back windshield of his 1993 Toyota Corolla had been shattered while parked outside. This incident of criminal mischief in the fourth degree occurred between August 25 at 10 p.m. and August 26 at 9 a.m. Police are not sure what was used to shatter the windshield at this time and are still investigating.August 27
11:30 a.m. A bench warrant went out for the 18-year-old Thornwood, NY resident arrested by the Greenburgh Drug & Alcohol Task Force for the unlawful possession of marijuana and for the criminal diversion of a prescription (Vyvanse, an ADHD medication) in the fourth degree. He was held for arraignment and saw the judge.
Jewelry Stolen From Apartment
4:03 p.m. An 83-year-old resident of Broadway reported that $20 in cash and $100 in jewelry was removed from her bedroom. There was no forced entry gained, and no suspects at this time. Police are investigating this matter.
August 30
Resident Scares off Tire Thieves
7:11 a.m. A 56-year-old Hollywood Drive resident reported hearing people outside her house. She looked out her window and saw two males. She called out "What are you doing?" and they ran off towards a dark-colored vehicle, fleeing in the direction of Hastings. When she came out of her house a few hours later, she found wooden blocks and a tire iron, tools that indicate tire theft, next to her Honda Civic. The incident occurred on August 29 between 5 p.m. and midnight.
More Damage at Golf Course
7:13 a.m. An employee of the Ardsley Country Club phoned police to report property damage of $500 to the putting greens at holes 3 and 5. This incident occurred after 5 p.m. on August 29 and 6 a.m. on August 30.
August 23
Stolen GPS
11:33 a.m. A 34-year-old Atilda Avenue resident reported that her Garmin GPS unit, worth $199, had been stolen out of her vehicle while parked outside between August 20 and August 30. No damage was reported to the vehicle, and she did not know if the doors were left unlocked.
