How did you come up with the name? Based on my name, I built my website, sarahbrookedesign.com, nearly a decade ago as a way to teach myself web design and showcase my portfolio. The business later developed, and the name stayed.

Why start a business in this town? After moving nine times in the past nine years, we chose Dobbs Ferry as a place to put down our roots because of the warm, down-to-earth, community feel, natural beauty, amazing school system and proximity to New York City. The resources and support I’ve found here for small businesses, as well as the visual arts, has been icing on the cake.

What business are you in? Graphic design; I specialize in building brands and creating print and digital collateral for small- and mid-sized businesses.

What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced as a business owner? Setting aside the time to build and develop my own brand has been a big challenge. One of my goals for 2017 is to set aside some time each day to evaluate my goals and define and market my own business.

What’s been your proudest achievement since opening? I’m most proud when my clients are happy with the work we create. To help passionate people grow their businesses and see results is extremely rewarding.

How does your business give back to the community? I’m always thrilled to help nonprofits or small businesses that are working toward a broad range of causes. Whether the local PTO, or an international program supporting education in villages in India, so many people support important causes that are close to their heart; to be able to help them achieve their goals through creating the right messaging and design is a privilege.
