Dobbs Ferry Student Named Finalist in Regeneron Science Talent Search

Twenty lower Hudson Valley students were named scholars Jan. 4.

DOBBS FERRY, NY — A Dobbs Ferry High School student has been named a finalist of the Regeneron Science Talent Search.

Blake Hord, 17, whose project was high mass planet spiral shocks as a source of infrared emission from protoplanetary disks, was one of 40 finalists announced Wednesday.

The finalists will travel to Washington, DC in March to undergo final judging, display their work to the public, meet with notable scientists and compete for $1.8 million in awards, ranging from $40,000 to the top prize of $250,000.

Twenty lower Hudson Valley students were named scholars — previously called semifinalists — Jan. 4. They were selected from 1,749 entrants from 527 high schools in 46 states and seven overseas high schools.
