Dobbs Ferry Students Learn Civics from State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins
The Senator had the honor of swearing in 29 student government representatives following their recent election.
State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins visited Springhurst Elementary School in Dobbs Ferry Wednesday to give a civics lesson to third, fourth and fifth graders.
The Senator had the honor of swearing in 29 student government representatives following their recent election. Each of the students promised to do a good job as role models and leaders in their school. Each student received a Certificate of Recognition for their accomplishment.
“It’s heartening to see that at such a young age, these students are taking an interest in making their school a better place by participating in student government at Springhurst,” said Senator Stewart-Cousins in a statement. “Administering the oath of office to these boys and girls also gave me an opportunity to underscore the importance of government, and the role I play as their elected state senator in Albany. These students are learning a valuable lesson about the importance of sharing ideas and working together, to influence what happens in their school, and one day, in their community.”
