Dows Lane Students Practice Creating Computer Code
This was the first year that second-graders participated in the Hour of Code.

IRVINGTON, NY — Dows Lane Elementary School second- and third-graders engaged in coding exercises during the Hour of Code, an international event that is a popular feature of Computer Science Education Week, Dec. 5-11.
The Hour of Code, which serves as an introduction to coding and computer programming, enabled the students to choose from a variety of self-guided coding activities as they worked at the Dows Lane Library, a district spokesman said. Some of the exercises included “Kodable” and Lego’s “Get Bit Moving.”
“Students discussed various ways that technology impacts our lives and were excited to learn programming basics,” Library Media Specialist Kathleen Lalier said, adding that student feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
