Update: Early Morning Assault Confirmed as Attempted Robbery
Police report an attack on Main Street.

A 66-year-old male resident was accosted by three men at approximately 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on Main Street--near Palisade Street--in Dobbs Ferry, Lieutenant James Guarnieri, of Dobbs Ferry Police, said this morning.
After meeting with the victim hours later, Guarnieri was able to confirm that the attack was indeed an attempted robbery, although nothing was ultimately taken.
"The man described as having been detained, picked up and then put on the ground," Guarnieri said.

A witness notified the Dobbs Ferry Police at the time of the occurrence and officers did catch a glimpse of the three men as they fled the scene. However, the attackers were not apprehended and no arrests have been made.
The victim described the three men as athletically build black males, two of whom were in their early twenties and the other approximately five years younger. They were driving a very old maroon sedan.

"There are a lot of walkers and joggers out at that time of day in Dobbs Ferry," Guarnieri said. "So it is kind-of unusual for this type of criminal activity to happen here."
Although Guarnieri recommends that everyone exert caution when walking or jogging alone, he believes this is an isolated incident that warrants no changes in residents' everyday routines.
"I think this is a case of three individuals traveling through the area who decided to prey on somebody who happened to be out," he said. "In the 25 years I've been on the Dobbs Ferry police force, this type of incident has happened very infrequently."
The incident is still under investigation.
