Editor's Notebook: A Belated Introduction
A quick overview of what Patch is and how it can best serve the community.
Dear Hastings, Dobbs Ferry and Irvington community,
Because I posted my formal welcome statement right after our launch—when nobody knew to go to the site—I would like to introduce myself and Patch again, letting you know what we're all about.
Patch is an online newspaper. That means articles generally contain multiple sources, are researched thoroughly and copyedited before publication.

Patch is also an interactive website, on which we encourage: questions, comments, announcements and events you think are important. As a reporter, I am very much a proponent of debating issues and freely sharing ideas—but when those ideas become hyperbolized, mean-spirited or redundant, I will exercise my editorial right to take them down.
Our announcements section is a great way for you to publicize: births, deaths, promotions, government meetings, new laws, school news, awards etc. However, letters expressing opinions should not be posted as announcements. Please send opinion letters directly to me (elizabeth@patch.com) with your full name and valid local address. As long as letters don't verge on personal attacks, libel or slander, I will almost always be thrilled to post them.

I thoroughly enjoy covering news in the Rivertowns and hope you appreciate the work we've been doing. Please don't hesitate to write to me with any corrections, news tips or suggestions you have for the site.
Enjoy this beautiful day!
Sincerely,
Lizzie Hedrick
