Joffrey: Mavericks of American Dance

A sweeping celebration of the company cofounded in 1956 by Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino, which ingeniously combined modern dance with ballet technique and set classical dances to pop music scores. From Bob Hercules (Bill T. Jones: A Good Man), this lively film features excerpts from many seminal works, including Astarte,Trinity, and Billboards as well as breakthrough collaborations with choreographers Twyla Tharp, Kurt Jooss, and Leonide Massine.
