The Irvington Farmers Market is searching for the best pie bakers in the village to share their favorite recipes and compete in a new contest on September 15, 2010. A panel of Village Mystery Judges will preside over the official taste testing.
Pies can be sweet or savory, must feature an ingredient purchased at the Irvington Farmers market, such as locally-grown fresh fruits or vegetables, artisanal cheeses, meats or seafood, and be made entirely from scratch including pie crust. Recipe must be provided, but need not be original.

"The blend of talented local pie bakers using farm-fresh, local ingredients is a delicious combination," said Pascale Le Draoulec, Irvington Farmers Market organizer. "The sky's the limit on creativity and we hope to have a wide range of entries that showcase the great variety of fresh ingredients available at our market," added Le Draoulec.
"The old-fashioned pie contest is a nostalgic and fun way to draw villagers to the market, support our local farmers and bring friends and neighbors together," said Connie Kehoe, Village of Irvington Trustee.
Pies will be judged on taste, appearance and originality and extra points will be given for sharing personal stories about why the pie recipe is so special, such as family history, great memories or other. Village residents can enter as many pies as they wish and winners will be selected from three categories: Adults (ages 18 and up), Teenagers (ages 13-17) and Children (up to and including age 12).
Judging will be held at the Irvington Farmer's Market on September 15, 2010.
The market opens at 3:30 and closes at 7:30 p.m. Stay tuned for additional details regarding pie drop off and judging times on the www.irvingtonny.gov web site.
