Everyone's Smiling at Irvington's Day Boat Cafe—Especially the Fish

Sometimes, restaurants get everything right. Day Boat is one of them.

Let me lay my cards out on the table: I’m a sucker for reasonably-priced, tasty meals, served by friendly people who don’t resent you’re the customer. Which probably explains why I’m a big fan—and you should be, too—of .

Situated at One Bridge Street, it’s easy to believe this is an unlucky location. Remember One, Solera, and Lucky Larry’s? (I’m kidding about the last one.)

Day Boat is not the overrated restaurant around the corner with the river view. Yet, Day Boat is more seaworthy. I don’t fawn over décor, but the place seems to have been designed by someone who actually eats in restaurants. The dining room is conversation-able even when full. Look up and you’ll feel like the Winklevoss Twins will drop by any minute to man the oars.

If you’re one of those people who enjoys making a great meal out of “just” starters, do it here: little necks, crab cakes, clam chowder, popcorn shrimp, grilled octopus, house salad, Po’ Boy sliders and more. Just swim on.

Still hungry: Lobster roll with crispy French fries. It’s amazing how many restaurants screw that up. But not here. Plus the fish tacos: not too heavy and fun to eat. I’m going to try that Southern Fried Chicken (yes, chicken) next time. No matter what.

Sweet tooth? The ice cream sandwich is a knock-out

Lastly: I bet you don’t leave without extending a genuine “Thank You” to Spiro and the staff you bump into on the way out.

Crowd:  Smart diners who appreciate uncomplex seafood at rational prices

Think About:  All appetizers, all the way

Don’t Miss: Spicy Popcorn shrimp

Bring: Friends and Family you won’t mind seeing again because they will return
