half of Ardsley Road bridge will soon reopen after 4+years

Why did it take so long to repair a small bridge?

Notre Dame Cathedral took five years to be rebuilt

Ardsley Road bridge will take longer –and it’s a very small bridge connecting Ardsley to unincorporated Greenburgh- Central Ave

NYS provided me with an update on the Ardsley Road bridge restoration. The first half of the bridge is almost complete. It’s taken the contractor hired by NYS over four years to complete this first half of the bridge. Work will start on the 2nd half of the bridge in late January or February and according to the state should be completed this year.

This is a NYS owned bridge, and the contractor was hired by the state. Some residents have asked me to reach out to the state to determine why it will have taken over half a decade to rebuild this relatively small bridge that connects Ardsley to unincorporated Greenburgh. Were there cost overruns, contractor related issues? What can everyone learn from this experience? It took France 5 years to rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral. By time the Ardsley Road bridge is completed it will have taken longer to rebuild this very small bridge than it took to rebuild the Cathedral at Notre Dame.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor

Mr. Feiner,

Happy New Year! Here is an update on the project as of today.

• Waterproofing of the deck is now complete

• The contractor anticipates installing the new guiderail the week of 01/20/25

• Traffic to be shifted onto the new bridge deck, however, striping of the new lane lines is weather sensitive. The Contractor will perform this work at his first opportunity.

• Demolition of the Stage 2 side of the bridge is anticipated to be started late January into February

Please note, the contractor is performing its work in a manner as to minimize any impact to the public and the number of open travel lanes will remain the same as prior to the start of construction.
