Hastings Assistant Superintendent Resigns

Assistant Superintendent Rhonda Cohen will leave Hastings to serve as Assistant Superintendent in Winchester, Massachusetts.

As his first interaction with the Hastings community at large, Interim Superintendent of Schools Timothy Connors sent a district-wide e-mail announcing Assistant Superintendent Rhonda Cohen's resignation.

Cohen will be leaving the district Aug. 1 to assume the same position in the Winchester School District in Massachusetts.

Cohen's resignation comes during the same summer in which district Superintendent Robert Shaps will leave to serve as superintendent in Mamaroneck.

According to Connors' note, Cohen thanked the Board of Education for the opportunity to have worked with a "dedicated and talented group of teachers, administrators, and support staff within a school district that prides itself in a vision of public education in which high standards and academic excellence are coupled with a strong commitment to the visual and performing arts, social emotional learning, and diversity."

No members of the Hastings Board of Education were available for comment on when they would begin looking for a replacement for Cohen--or whether the position even needed to be filled--but check back later for updates.
