Hastings Police Beat June 21—28: Identity Theft, Smash-and-Grab

A list of incidents reported by the Hastings-on-Hudson Police from June 22-28.

June 22

Attempted Check Fraud & Identity Theft

1:45 p.m. Two attempts were made to withdraw money from an unknown Chase Bank in a resident's account. The first check was made out to a "Collin Campbell" in the amount of $8, 742.96 and another made out to "Kenya Da Whidbee" for $8,853.47. Chase blocked the checks from being cashed and no money was taken from the account. The resident was advised by police to follow up with Chase Bank and to call Trans Union, Trade Commission, T.R.W., and Equifax regarding the identity theft.

5:53 p.m. Subject came into Hastings police station with a black leather wallet found on sidewalk adjacent to Bob's Service Station. Owner notified and retrieved his wallet at 6:55 p.m.

June 23

Found Skateboard

8:48 a.m. A large black skateboard was found at Zinsser Park on June 22 and brought into Hastings police station on June 23. Item has not been claimed.

Vigorous Yelling

12:50 p.m. A resident of Warburton Avenue came into the police station to report that she heard yelling coming from a neighboring apartment and that she was afraid to go home. Police arrived on scene to check and found that everything was okay. The neighboring residents were just celebrating the soccer game.

June 24

Cats & Rabbits Left Unattended for Days

4:31 p.m. A caller phoned police to report that tenants renting out the basement of his parents' house on James Street left numerous cats and rabbits home alone for days. The caller also reported that the tenant was causing a fire hazard by leaving a cluster of boxes in the entryway to the house. Caller was advised to contact the building department to assist with the obstructed entrance. Police were dispatched to check on the welfare of the animals. Officer O'Riordan requested Greenburgh Police Department's Animal Control. The animals were checked and not removed from the home. Matters regarding the building's obstruction were handled by Hastings Fire Department.

Smash-and-Grab

5:20 p.m. An employee of Harvest on Hudson called to report that another employee had her passenger side car window broken and her book bag stolen. A black Longchamp tote bag valued at $200 was taken, along with her Spanish books. Vehicle is a grey 2002 BMW. Detectives are actively investigating and have notified other police departments in neighboring areas in case similar acts take place.

June 25

Graffiti

2:14 p.m. The pool director at Chemka Pool reported chalk graffiti on the outside of the pool and inside the locker rooms. Patrol arrived on scene to find that the chalk had been washed off. This matter is being investigated by Hasting's Youth Officer.

Lost & Found Wallet

8:30 p.m. A resident brought a brown leather wallet at Citibank on 65 Main Street. The wallet contained $20 in cash and several credit cards. Police left message on owner's answering machine and owner came into police station the next morning to pick it up.

June 26

Missing Bronxville Juvenile Found

9:50 a.m. Police received hot-line message from Bronxville Police Department regarding a missing fifteen-year-old who may have been in Hastings or Dobbs Ferry. The six-foot-four male was found in front of the Hastings library at 10:30 a.m. Bronxville police picked him up and brought him home.

June 27

Dispute

2:21 a.m. A Hastings resident called 911 from her cell phone outside her residence. She told the operator that her boyfriend was throwing her shirts out the window. The caller was kept on the line. Police arrived on scene and met with caller, but boyfriend would not let anyone enter and caller did not have key. The officer called the boyfriend on the landline, but he would not answer. Caller was transported to Hastings police station at 2:50 a.m. A D.I.R. was filled out and the caller requested a cab to bring her to a relative's in White Plains.

Fight-in-Progress

11:36 a.m. Several callers reported a fight-in-progress on Warburton Avenue. Police and ambulance arrived on scene. The ambulance drove the 15-year-old injured party to the hospital. The subject wanted for the assault fled the scene prior to police arrival.

More information cannot be released at this time as this case is still under investigation.

Youths Smoking on Mercedes

11:37 p.m. A resident of Ridge Street called police to report that a group of youths were sitting and smoking on his black Mercedes. Police arrived on scene and advised the youths of the complaint. They got off the car and all was in order.
