Hastings Schools Chief Heading To Chappaqua

He'll be taking on an assistant superintendent position.

RIVERTOWNS, NY — Dr. Tony Sinanis, the current superintendent for the Hastings-on-Hudson school district, will be leaving to take an administrative job in Chappaqua schools.

The Chappaqua Board of Education announced Thursday that the trustees have appointed Dr. Sinanis as the next Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development.

Chappaqua Superintendent Dr. Christine Ackerman and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Kusum Sinha conducted an extensive reference check where teachers, staff, principals, and parents spoke highly of Dr. Sinanis’ professionalism, educational philosophy, student-centered ideology, his ability to build positive relationships, and his innate ability to foster dynamic learning communities in diverse settings.

Given both his classroom experience and time spent in various leadership roles, Dr. Sinanis is uniquely qualified to take on his new responsibilities, which include labor management meetings, negotiations, the Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) evaluation process for teachers and administrators, oversight of the Human Resources Department, implementation of leadership professional development, and compliance with state and federal requirements, Chappaqua officials said.

“What stood out about Tony is his proven track record as a leader and his ability to bring people together,” said Dr. Ackerman. “We are looking forward to having Tony join our team to support our cohesive community of learners and leaders through positive and collaborative relationships.”

He began his 20-year education career as a classroom teacher in NYC and Hewlett-Woodmere, where he taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. He also served as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for the Plainedge Public School District as well as an elementary assistant principal and principal in both Jericho and Valley Stream.

Dr. Sinanis is the co-author of multiple books including "Hacking Leadership." He is a national speaker and a highly sought after professional developer.

Dr. Sinanis received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from New York University, earned a master’s degree in instructional/educational technology and a professional diploma in educational leadership and technology from New York Institute of Technology, and holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania.
