Dear Parents:

As part of our regularly scheduled emergency safety drills, the Hastings Public Schools, in tandem with the Hastings Police & Fire Departments, have scheduled an extended emergency evacuation drill for tomorrow, Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 8:30 AM for the Farragut Complex (Farragut Middle School and Hastings High School). Students and staff, grades 5 - 12 have been informed of the procedures for the drill. We have asked all students to be on time and to bring their coats to first period. High school seniors with signed opt-out forms have been asked to report to the building on time OR to remain home until the beginning of second block.

The drill has been organized in two phases. Phase One will run like a regular fire evacuation drill where high school students/staff will report to Rosedale (via Hillside and Mt. Hope) and middle school students/staff cross Hillside and report to Reynolds Field. Once organized, they will be given instructions to report to three separate extended evacuation sites, Grace Church, Hastings Public Library and Hastings Community Center. Police, fire and school staff will have various roadways blocked at different intervals between the hours of 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM including the Five Corners, parts of Main St. and all roadways adjacent to and in close proximity to the Farragut Complex. We ask for your patience if driving in these areas during this time period. Please abide by the requests of the personnel designated to help ensure the safety of our children. Our plan is to complete both phases of the drill as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support.

Roy R. Montesano Ed.D.
