Hollywood on Hudson Film Production Degree Program Will Help Create Tomorrow's Silver Screen Magic

The new program links a Riverdale college and Yonkers studio campus to train students for film and media jobs.

YONKERS, NY — A new film production program aims to prepare students for careers in entertainment while expanding local education pathways into the industry.

The University of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale and Great Point Studios in Yonkers have unveiled the new Hollywood on Hudson Film Production Program. The program will offer an Associate of Arts degree in the liberal arts with a specialization in film production. Coursework will include film and media production, communication, digital editing, practical training and job placement assistance.

The program also will include opportunities that can lead to representation in the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts, known as IATSE, according to school officials.In addition to the associate degree, UMSV will work with Great Point Studios and IATSE to develop curriculum and dual credit course opportunities for the Robert Halmi Sr. Academy of Film and Television, a public school in Yonkers. Those students would be able to earn college credits while still in high school.

Great Point Studios Yonkers will provide UMSV with a broadcast stage, black room and podcast recording studios on its Wells Avenue campus, along with classroom, teaching, auditorium and administrative office space, according to the announcement. The studio campus is home to productions from Apple, NBC, Paramount and Starz, and Lionsgate is its anchor tenant.

"By combining academic training with hands-on experience inside a working studio environment, we're helping to build a new, diverse pipeline of talent that reflects the future of film and television production. We're proud to partner with the University of Mount Saint Vincent to bring meaningful opportunity to students right here in Yonkers and New York City."
