The boy is a student at a school about 2 miles from the overpass where he jumped.

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, NY — A Hastings-on-Hudson police officer was on her way to work Friday when she spotted a boy running on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers. Police Officer Jessie Ferreira Cavallo watched as the boy climbed over a guard rail and jumped to the concrete below from the overpass.

After she pulled her car over, she grabbed first-aid items and jumped after the boy, the Journal News said. She said the child looked dead.

She was joined by another woman, who was wearing a military uniform.
