Grassroots music and arts festival features concerts by nationally acclaimed artists and rising stars.
Hundreds of people converged on Draper Park in Hastings Saturday for the third annual Take Me To The River Grassroots Music and Arts Festival, presented by 12milesnorth.org. The event featured a wide range of musical styles along with art installations and activities for children.
Not only were musical styles diverse, but many of the bands drew their inspiration from a broad range of genres, from the eclectic jazz of Exit 12 and the dance-punk of Black Taxi to the bluegrass rockabilly of the Ebony Hillbillies, the African rock of Timbilia and the modern Jewish roots music of the Klezmatics.
Along with established performers were some rising stars. They included singer-songwriter Caleb Flood-Goldstick, 13, of Hastings, who is recording in PJ Bianco's studio in Los Angeles.
