Inter-Village Paving Project Smoothes Some of the Area's Most Damaged Roads
Hastings, Dobbs Ferry and Irvington have contracted to pave certain roads.

For the past three years, the villages of: Ardsley, Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, Irvington, Tarrytown and Elmsford have resolved to participate in a joint-paving project under a single contract. This year, the company chosen was Petrillo Contracting Company, based out of Mt. Vernon.
Ardsley's village administrator George Calvi historically has spearheaded the initiative, finding the lowest bidder for the project.
"Generally speaking roads should be repaved after seven years of use," Calvi said. "However, given everyone's economic situation, we sometimes have to choose the most in need of work and let others go for longer."

While Hastings portion of the project is already complete--the village wanted to finish paving before school starts, Dobbs Ferry and Irvington are just beginning the project.
Streets paved in Hastings--or parts of street--were: Pinecrest Drive, from Broadway to Warburton Avenue; Hamilton Avenue from Mt. Hope Boulevard to Rosedale Avenue, Merrill Street, from Rosedale Avenue to Farragut Avenue; Fairmont Avenue, from Lincoln Avenue to Stanley Avenue.

The Village of Irvington will spend $230,000 on paving and curb replacement this year, said Irvington village administrator Lawrence Schopfer.
Schopfer expects the work to begin within the next week and said, "We will do our best to inform residents of exactly where and when work is expected. However, based on past experience, this contractor moves very fast."
Roads included in the resolution this year are: Belmont Drive, Washington Avenue, Ardsley Aveenue West, Hudson Road West, Station Road, Maple Street, Willow Street, Oak Street, Woodbine Road, Cyrus Field Road and Lower Fieldpoint Drive, though many of thee roads will only have sections repaved.
Curb installations or replacements will occur on: Station Road, Upper Fieldpoint Drive, Maple Street and Willow Drive.
Although Dobbs Ferry has yet to solidify the timing for its paving, roads which will have sections repaved are: Main Street, Oak Street, Elm Street, Chestnut Street, Walnut Street, Bellewood Ave and Cyrus Field Road.
According to Calvi, recent harsh winters have caused the majority of damage to local roads, and the poor economy has made it more difficult to repair the damages.
"I was very happy to see that the Farmers Almanac has predicted a mild winter this year," Calvi said.
