Irvington Appoints Interim Assistant Superintendent
The appointment was made during Tuesday's Board of Education meeting.

IRVINGTON, NY — The Irvington School District Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kristopher Harrison appointed Mary Ellis as interim assistant superintendent for instruction and human resources for the balance of the 2019-2020 school year. The appointment was made during Tuesday's Board of Education meeting.
“I am very excited to welcome Mary to the Irvington UFSD,” Harrison said. “Her wealth of experience and knowledge will enable her to be a great partner with our faculty, staff and administration in continuing to support the delivery and development of the high-quality learning experiences in which our students participate. As she transitions into her new role, I am confident that Mary will quickly build strong relationships with our school community that will support our dedication to continuous improvement and excellence in education.”
Ellis has extensive background as a school leader, having served as a director of curriculum and instructional services at the Mount Pleasant Central School District. In her role, she supervised all K-12 curriculum, instruction and assessment, designed and delivered professional development for teachers and administrators and promoted success for all students. She also has experience as a director of fine and performing arts, as well as a supervisor of elementary English language arts and social studies at the Harrison Central School District.

Ellis has also worked as an independent consultant, supporting teachers in the first few years of their careers and providing onsite support in the implementation of New York State arts standards. Prior to her entering administration, Ellis worked as an elementary school teacher and middle school science teacher.
She said she was thrilled to be joining the Irvington school community and look forward to building upon the district’s strong reputation for educational innovation and excellence.”

Ellis earned her bachelor of music from Mannes College of Music and holds a master of science in teaching from Pace University. She also completed post-graduate work in school and district administration from Teachers College, Columbia University, earning a certificate from the Future School Administrators Academy.
