Irvington High School Athletes Honored At BOE Meeting

The athletes have demonstrated a high level of performance that was recognized on both the section and state level.

IRVINGTON, NY — Five Irvington High School students — Luke Caromsino, Miranda Farman, Jess Greene, Zoe Maxwell and Eric Pastarnack — were recognized for their achievements and dedication to their sports during the fall season when they received certificates at the Dec. 5 Board of Education meeting. “These five athletes have not only demonstrated a high level of performance that was recognized on both the section and state level, but they have lead their teams, through unselfish play, to make their teammates the best they could be,” Athletic Director Arthur McCormack said.

Caromsino, a senior and boys varsity cross-country team member, was the Section One Class C champion this year, his second title in three years. He was also an individual race winner at three large invitational championships and was the individual league championship race winner, which helped his team capture the league crown. He placed third in the county championships and again placed third in the Class C state championships, which was the best finish ever in the history of Irvington cross-country. This earned him a trip to the state federation meet, where he competed against schools of all sizes including public, private and Catholic, where he placed 25th out of 258 runners.

Farman, a junior and girls varsity soccer team member, received All-Section honors. Twice recognized for All-League honors, she was a part of three league championship and two sectional final teams. This year, she scored six goals and had 13 assists. Her determination, high-level ball control skills and soccer acumen are her greatest strengths, which aided her in her ability to score and set up her teammates.

Greene, a senior and girls varsity soccer team member, received All-Section honors. Three times recognized for All-League honors, she was a part of three league championship and two sectional final teams. As a standout defender, she was a huge part of the team’s seven shutout victories this season. Her hustle and excellent communication skills on the field were the main reason opponents’ attack-scoring plays were thwarted.

Maxwell, a senior and girls varsity soccer team member, scored 40 goals this season to bring her career total to an amazing 116, which is the school’s all-time record. She is a three-time All-League and All-Section selection, and was voted by the New York State Sportswriters Association to the New York State Class B first team. She is a recipient of the prestigious Con Edison Athlete of the Week award and was selected as the Westchester County Player of the Year by the Journal News. She is known for her explosive speed, great agility and ball skills that help her create opportunities for herself and teammates.

Pastarnack, a senior and boys varsity soccer team member, received All-Section honors. He has twice been selected as All-League. This year, he scored six goals and had seven assists, and he is one of the best defensive midfielders in the section.

“We are so proud of the students,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kristopher Harrison said. “Not only have they earned impressive accomplishments in competition, but they have represented themselves and the Irvington school community so well.”
