Irvington Recognizes Newly Tenured Teachers

In a reception before Tuesday's board meeting, the Irvington school district honored its nine teachers who received tenure this year.

The teachers, most of whom were joined by their families, were thrilled officially to be inducted into the Irvington community.

"Irvington has been great—I was welcomed here with open arms," said high school physical education teacher Donna DeFelippo." Besides her regular teaching duties, DeFelippo also coaches cheerleading, basketball and softball.

Bernie Keating, a middle school math teacher, said he has "loved his time in Irvington." A Yorktown resident, Keating taught for two years in Hastings before coming to IMS. 

Tiffany Bentley, a physical education teacher at the Main Street School, described Irvington as "like a family." She is grateful to have been mentored by MSS Principal Raina Kor and and Athletic Director Artie McCormack. 

Since Bentley coaches both varsity and modified sports—soccer, basketball and lacrosse—she gets to "see her students grow after they eave the Main Street School. I love to see their progress."
