Irvington Senior Named Regeneron Science Talent Search Scholar
Brooke Dunefsky is among 300 students to be awarded $2,000.

IRVINGTON, NY — Irvington High School senior Brooke Dunefsky earned an award in the 2022 Regeneron Science Talent Search, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. She presented her research, entitled “A Novel Device that Utilizes Neuroplasticity for the Rehabilitation of Stroke Victims.”
Dunefsky is among 300 students to be awarded $2,000. The scholars were selected from 1,804 applicants from 603 high schools from across 46 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and eight other countries.
They were chosen based on their exceptional research skills, commitment to academics, innovative thinking and promise as scientists as demonstrated through the submission of their original, independent research projects, essays and recommendation, according to a spokesman.

“We are so proud of Brooke,” Science Research teacher Nadia Parikka said. “Aside from being a wonderful and kind young lady, she is a dedicated student with high motivation and perseverance. She is well deserving of this recognition.”
On Jan. 20, Regeneron will announce the top 40 finalists, who will compete for more than $1.8 million in awards during a weeklong competition from March 10-16.

According to the organization, the prestigious competition provides students with a national stage to present original research and celebrates the hard work and novel discoveries of young scientists who are bringing a fresh perspective to significant global challenges.
