We're concerned about impact Section 8 cuts will have on affordable housing

Last night Congressman George Latimer met with the Greenburgh Town Board to share his impressions of his first hundred days in Washington. The Congressman is touring Town, Village Boards and City Councils in his district- keeping officials informed of what’s happening. Tariffs, threatened cuts in Medicaid and other programs, the partisan atmosphere in Washington were also discussed.
It is unclear whether municipalities will be receiving federal grants for initiatives – a past practice in DC, but the Congressman suggested we apply in case the grant programs are not cut. Bishop Wilbert Preston and I also expressed concerns about rumored cutbacks in Section 8 programs. If Section 8 is cut or eliminated it will have a significant impact on the ability to maintain existing affordable housing. I encouraged the Congressman to pursue an idea that he proposed as a former County Executive. Over a year ago Mr. Latimer suggested direct rail service from the Hudson River train stations to Penn Station. Congressman Latimer’s suggestion would cut the commute time for many people who live in Greenburgh and the River Villages and encourage people who are thinking about moving to our community to move here. I think this is the right time to pursue this great idea -especially since congestion pricing is now happening in NYC.
The Congressman also highlighted how exciting it is to work in the same place where many historical decisions were made by Presidents and former leaders of our country. The link to the Town Board discussion is below. This was the first item on the agenda after the rollcall, pledge, and moment of silence. A very informative discussion with our new Congressman.
