Mail Delays, No Shows Frustrate Greenburgh Residents
Town officials have received sporadic complaints about the situation off-and-on for over a year.
That old slogan from the United States Postal Service that neither rain nor snow nor gloom of night will deter them from their appointed rounds might not entirely apply to Greenburgh.
Several residents - particularly in Hartsdale - have complained to town officials in recent weeks that their mail has either been delayed, strewn around the neighborhood, delivered to wrong addresses or not showing up at all. Residents who rely on the mail for medications have not received them, according to officials.
Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner says that he has received at least 20 complaints, which he has passed along to postal officials. And this is not the first time Greenburgh residents have complained.

“Last year there were similar problems,” said Feiner in a statement to Patch. “Received over 80 complaints from residents. Service improved after the letters were forwarded to the appropriate officials but seems to have deteriorated again.”
Resident Frances Newburg summed it up some of the frustrations many residents feel. ”On days which have weather problems, we get no mail but our friends in Yorktown Heights, with worse weather related problems, get mail,” she wrote in an email. “We too cannot order medications through the mail because we cannot trust the post office to deliver it. This increases our costs for prescription drugs as we are unable to take advantage of the mail order discounts.”

The rough winter has played a factor in the lack of first-rate service, as have staffing cuts at some of the area postal facilities, Feiner said.
George Flood, spokesman for the postal service in Westchester, issued the following statement to Patch about the situation, and urged residents to contact the postal service when problems arise:
We are very proud of the job our employees do on a daily basis.
A few streets at the tail end of three of the twelve carrier routes in Hartsdale were impacted during last Thursday’s snow storm. Let me emphasize that 94 percent of the 6,835 street deliveries in Hartsdale were made on Thursday in very challenging conditions. Full mail delivery was resumed on Friday.
