Main Street School Students P.A.C.K. Healthy Snacks For Lunch
Each day of the week was assigned a different color.

IRVINGTON, NY — From strawberries to apples, carrots and celery sticks, Main Street School students enjoyed a wide variety of healthy snacks for lunch during P.A.C.K. Week, or Pack Assorted Colors for Kids Week, from April 23-27. “The focus of P.A.C.K. Week is to encourage students to eat more colorful fruits and vegetables, as each has its own nutritional benefits,” Principal Joyce Chapnick said. “It was an exciting week of school spirit and healthy eating.”
Each day of the week was assigned a different color, which encouraged students to broaden their selection of fruits and vegetables, according to a district spokesman.
Monday was red, which allowed students to bring strawberries, red pepper slices, tomato wedges or red apples as a snack to school. Tuesday was yellow for bananas and peaches. Wednesday was purple for grapes, raisins and fresh blueberries. Thursday was orange for baby carrots, dried apricots and orange slices, while Friday was green for celery sticks, broccoli and green apples.

“Special thanks to physical education teacher Laura Shaw for her leadership in organizing the week and providing students with opportunities to deepen their understanding of the benefits of healthy eating,” Chapnick said. “Thanks to members of the Parent Advisory Council at Main Street School for providing the color-specific balloons each day.”
