Local Runners Finish Boston Marathon: Rivertowns Daily Sports Digest, April 17

Despite record heat, locals finish the Boston Marathon.

 College News from Dick Miller

Tennis

Lisa Tessitore (Dobbs Ferry '10) and the Stevens Tech women's team ended their Spring season on the 11th, with a 7-2 loss at home to the New Paltz Hawks. She lost her singles match, 2-6:6-4, 6-0, after which she and her doubles partner won their finale, 8-6.  During the season, she played in 20 singles matches all told, winning all but 5, and in doubles, the record was 17-6.

In a 6-1 loss at home with Quinnipiac on the 7th, Mike Kennelly (Irvington '10) and Alex Holstein (Hastings '10) of Hartford both lost their singles , 6-4 ,7-5 and 6-3, 6-4 respectively, while Kennelly's doubles duo also fell, 8-0. The record thus far is 3-10 on the year.

Jeremy Mancus (Irvington '09) and the Nazareth men's tennis team is now 6-8:3-0, following their 6-3 win over fellow Rochesterites St. John Fisher on the 11th. Mancus blanked his singles opponent, 6-0, 6-0, while he and his doubles partner also prevailed, 8-6.

Track & Field

In the Bob Kahn Invitational at home on the 7th, Oberlin topped the other 3 teams with 208 points. In the 800, Annie Fields (Irvington '11) finished 7th, while running in the 5000, Emily Polstein (Hastings '11) was 7th, clocked at 20:15.12.

At Muhlenberg on the 7th, Nora Howe (Hastings '10) of Haverford, finished 18th of 30 runners in the women's 1,500 meter, clocked a 5:28.17.

On the 6th, at the Millersville Metrics Invitational, Julian Saliani (Irvington '10) of Johns Hopkins, finished 4th of 43 runners in the 1500, with a time of 4:03.77.

Mercy Baseball

We thank the Mercy College Sports Information Department for the below submissions:

Four Mavericks picked up two hits apiece as the Mercy College baseball team hung tight with ECC rival Dowling College through seven innings before falling 9-3 this afternoon (April 15).

Double Dip

The Mercy College baseball team dropped a doubleheader to ECC rival Dowling College, 3-2 and 9-5, this afternoon (April 14). Freshmen Giovanni Lasalandra and Vinny Orlando each tripled to spark the Mavericks offense; please follow the link here for further details.

Women's Softball

Mercy College softball earned an East Coast Conference doubleheader with the University of Bridgeport today (April 14). Mercy won the first game, 4-2, while dropping the second contest, 11-3 in five innings. Full details at the link here.
