Memorial Day Parade Brings Out the Best of Dobbs Ferry

Dawn deluge does not dampen the spirit of Memorial Day

Monday’s early morning downpour did not dampen the spirit of Dobbs Ferry’s Memorial Day parade. As the sky brightened, marchers assembled on Mohican Park Avenue. First stop, the Little White Church Cemetery on Ashford, where the color guard saluted a Civil War general on this the 150 anniversary of the Civil War.

Then it was on to where American Legion Post 1048 Commander Bill Florin led the community in honoring the villages fallen hero’s. Mayor Connett thanked all in attendance and Father Tim Scannell ofoffered the prayer. Then names of Dobbs’ Ferry’s fallen were read, followed by the response “absent”, always serving as a potent reminder of the meaning of Memorial Day.

The parade then marched down Cedar Street, stopping at theh where bells tolled for each of the war deceased from Dobbs Ferry.

The parade ended at Memorial Park with a prayer by American Legion Post Chaplin Lee Carozzi. Parade marchers and onlookers where treated to a cold drink and hot dogs as well as music by St. Christopher School’s Band at American Legion Hall at the foot of Palisades Street.
